Whether you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ o Whether you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ or not (🙋🏼‍♀️), this Easy, Amazing Irish Soda Bread recipe is worth making year-round 🍞 (recipe link in profile 👆).

Here’s why...

🍃 You can add nettle and/or spirulina powder to the batter to make it GREEN and more nutritious!

⏰ You can assemble this “quick bread” in under 30 minutes because you don’t have to wait for it to rise. The buttermilk, baking powder and baking soda do that work.

🍋 You can make homemade buttermilk (and skip buying a carton only to have a bunch leftover).

In fact, you probably already have all the ingredients to make the non-green version (see the ingredient list in the recipe link 👆)!

Don’t forget to lather butter on your slice and hide the rest from the leprechauns, because this recipe is GOLD 🌈🍯.

If you make a gluten-free and/or vegan version I’d love to hear how it turns out! 👂

Happy International Women’s Day! ✨ It took a Happy International Women’s Day! ✨

It took a village of (mostly) women, many of whom are moms, to create Seasonal Family Almanac ❄️🌷☀️🍁

We are so grateful to have been able to call on the wisdom and support of these amazing women to birth this dynamic book into being.

Above all, working with a community of women and mothers allowed us to create an entirely new paradigm of work!

We went to “work” with our babies in utero, nursing, playing around us, and yes, playfully tasting and testing our recipes!

Working primarily with women also allowed us to experience such a deep level of understanding and a desire to care for and uplift each other - much like we receive from Mother Earth!

It’s hard to encapsulate all the female power and energy that brought this book into being, and we can’t wait to share the wisdom and beauty of this village with you soon!

Here are many of the incredible women featured behind the scenes and on the pages:

Did you know 6 of the earliest almanacs published Did you know 6 of the earliest almanacs published in America were written by a black man named Benjamin Banneker?

I stumbled on this in @vashtiharrison ‘s “Little Legends: Exceptional Men in Black History.”

I was obviously thrilled to learn about Banneker because of the connection to my new book’s title (Seasonal Family Almanac)...

but Little Legends has held far more meaning for our family than that.

My daughter took this book out from the library, and we have been enthralled by every biography within.

It is truly an education I never had as a child, and one that is still not comprehensive in my oldest daughter’s elementary school.

Harrison’s book sheds light on how many new ideas, inventions, heroic acts of service and more were sparked by and carried out by black men in our country.

Most were enslaved or born in the Jim Crow era, and still managed to advance culture, science, arts, civil rights, and so on under insane oppression.

Banneker was one of those men.

His almanacs are best known for sharing his detailed calculations around medicine, astronomy, and agriculture.

And he did this despite being largely denied a formal education!

I am hesitant to draw too many correlations between my new book and Banneker’s almanac, though I wish I had known this piece of history so that I could add some mention in the book (let’s get it to the next edition with an update!).

However, Seasonal Family Almanac does include notes on seasonal food and farming, a Daily Lunar Tracker, and recipes for herbal medicine in the hopes of harkening back to the time when Banneker lived.

And we’re still in relationship with the Earth as our clock, our medicine chest, and our pantry.

If you’re not already a tree hugger… maple syr If you’re not already a tree hugger… maple syrup might turn you into one. 🌳🤎😉

This book was photographed in EVERY season ❄️🌷☀️🍁 (Pre-order link in my bio ☝️)

Which isn’t an easy feat.

Usually there’s a limited window of time ⏳ to photograph a book AFTER the manuscript is complete.

We were so committed to the idea of a seasonally visual book, that @allisonusavage agreed to do a photo shoot in maple season 🍁✨ on our dear friends @carolynpeaches and @cobtherapy’s land…even before we got an official book deal!

If you live in a maple region, sugaring season is not something that easily passes you by, and we wanted this special time of year to be featured!

✨ It’s when the headwaters of spring burst forth in the form of sap 💧 the sweet, clear nectar of life that runs through the maple trees.

✨ It’s when roaring fires are lit, bringing friends and family together to keep the fire fed and tend the transformation of forty gallons of sap into just one gallon of liquid gold maple syrup.

✨ This process always reminds me to reflect back on the transformations that have occurred for me during the darker winter months in order to taste the sweetness of sun and light again, of dreams beginning to take root. 🌱

In our family, tapping a tree is a joyful (and sometimes silly) occasion, and an opportunity to give thanks.

Maple syrup is one of two primary sweeteners in our home (the other is honey), and Seasonal Family Almanac contains loads of recipes laced with this gift. Maple-Cinnamon Buttered Popcorn and Maple Chaga Snow Cones are two easy ways to celebrate maple in your home 🍁💖.

When your identical twin 👯‍♀️ sees your b When your identical twin 👯‍♀️ sees your book for the first time in physical form... and she and her kids are in it 😆🤩

I’m insanely grateful to be born into this life with @dimityps, my biggest supporter and best friend.

She tested and tasted countless recipes, and rooted for me the whole way.

She is a force of nature and a huge inspiration in all realms of life, and I trust her feedback with every ounce of my body (even if it’s biased...😉).

So in case you were wondering, this book has the seal of twin-approval 👯‍♀️✅👍

On another note... this recipe is just one of many that uses the same ingredient in different ways—for inside and outside the body!

After making my Sweet & Cinnomon-y Pumpkin Seeds...

...you can make @janablankenship1’s Pumpkin Spice Face Mask with the leftover pumpkin 🎃

This was the first concept Jana and I landed on for the book, and just one of the ways we bring our knowledge together to offer so much more wisdom to our readers than we could possibly offer alone!

To pre-order the book comment “Seasonal Family Almanac” and I’ll DM you a speical link for a chance to win a prize ✨💫
